About
the Presenter...
Mary
Jo Huff is a nationally recognized author, Early Childhood educator,
storyteller, puppeteer, and recording artist.
She has trained teachers nationwide on the importance
of language and literacy through the power of telling
stories. Mary Jo is the author of seven resource
books for early childhood and has recorded three multi- award-winning, interactive
CD's with stories, songs, and finger plays.
Her book, STORYTELLING WITH PUPPETS, PROPS, AND PLAYFUL
TALES, has received the coveted Pegasus award from
the National Youth Storytelling Network. She
has recorded a multi-award-winning DVD - "Fariy Tales, Fantasy, and Storytellin' Fun!" The
DVD was filmed at the Newburgh Library and is filled with storytelling and story action.
Mary Jo has 30 years of experience and a passion for
the power and importance of storytelling and how it
relates to young children. She has a magical
humor in her high-energy performance and lively mix
of rhythm and rhyme for any storytime.

Workshop...
The presenter will
discuss and demonstrate simple ways to play with language,
use imagination and create wonderful places for children
to share and learn through the power of story play.
Mary Jo will demonstrate storytelling as a means of
teaching basic skills, language development, motivation,
social awareness, cultural awareness and diversity
and environmental concerns.
Books, stories,
songs, finger plays, poems and fun will be interwoven
throughout the presentation. Language development
ideas for increasing parental understanding and developmentally
appropriate story play will be introduced. Mary
Jo will also show how many of her ideas can
be conveyed through the use of puppets. She
feels puppets enrich learning, promote student interest
and facilitate problem solving. This is an interactive
workshop; come prepared clap, snap, wiggle and giggle while having fun and learning all at the same time.
